Theft, as defined in Islamic law, is the unlawful taking of another’s property in a deliberate and concealed manner. The sanctity of private property is a cornerstone of Islamic ethics, and theft is seen as a direct violation of this principle. However, the punishment for theft—hand amputation—is not applied indiscriminately.

> “Do not come near to adultery. Surely, it is an obscenity and an evil way.” (Quran 17:32)
“As for female and male fornicators, give each of them one hundred lashes…” (Quran 24:2)
